Why Is There A Need to Recycle: The Benefits of Recycling Paper

Recycling is not new to us, at least not to me. I understand the dire need to reduce, recycle, and reuse because this is the only apparent solution to limit our daily wastes. Long ago, I was not seriously thinking of doing these things to our wastes, but current weather conditions prompt me to apply these measures hoping that I can do something to reverse the situation or at least slow its progress. I have read that recycling is like exercise; we know we need it but some do not do it often, while others do not do it all.

When I was contemplating on this hub, I thought that writing this should not be hard. My only challenge was to attract readers to skim through the article, the very least they can do. I thought that this should not be new information to you, and that you may have read or known all along the benefits of recycling paper. However, I was compelled to finish the article because it is my day to day experience to see many people not caring about their wastes. They chuck everything into the trash bin unaware that there are things they can use again, or make a profit from. They do not even bother segregating the wastes. So why recycle paper?

Wildlife and rainforest protection is one of the many benefits of recycling paper.

We need to recycle paper because it saves trees and wildlife.

Recycling paper cuts back global warming because there is no need to cut down trees. Trees are very important in controlling air pollution. Air pollution causes poisoning to the air we breathe and the thinning of the ozone layer, and this thinning causes more solar heat to come inside the earth. Because heat does not escape easily from the earth, this causes global warming. From there, all other calamities happen: snow caps melt, ocean levels rise causing floods, climate changes, and many others.

The natural environment of the animals have trees and when trees are cutdown for new production of paper, they are forced to settle to a new environment. These trees serve as food and shelter to the animals. Studies show that animals die quickly to new environment. These wild animals are at huge risk of going extinct if more trees are destroyed fast. When they are at their natural habitat, they can die a natural death.

Why is there a need to recycle? How much threat is paper production to the environment, the trees? About 16 to 17 trees are used just to produce one ton of new paper. Moreover, one tree can cut down approximately 250 pounds carbon dioxide (this is air poison). Now, you do the math.

Jobs are created with the recycling industry.

We need to recycle paper because recycling industries create jobs and they can save on energy.

From collection of the wastes to production of recycled paper, the benefits of recycling paper and the opportunity of this industry is huge giving people more jobs. What companies take out from their pocket to spend on cutting down trees and producing paper (excessive amounts of money are wasted on these), they can use it to pay off their employees. And they can still save a lot.

Apart from that, recycling companies can save on energy when they recycle paper than making new ones. To make one ton of new paper, 64% more energy is used as compared to recycling and 2 barrels of oil is saved. Generally, creating products out from raw materials consumes much energy.

We need to recycle paper because everyone can do it.

As I have said, recycling is like exercise and we know we need to do it. It is our responsibility to do this because the earth is our home. The benefits of recycling paper should outweigh all reasons not to do it. Would you want your home to be full of clutter, wastes, and parasites? I do not want that, and I hope you do not want that as well. Imagine how much less garbage we can put in our already full landfills, Think of all the trees and all the animals that can be saved when we recycle. Picture your environment to be clean, where breathing is not slowly poisoning your body, and weather is in perfect condition. This should be inspiration enough to do your part and start recycling paper now.

Very well written hub written about recycling. The city where I live recycles and it's a joy to live here. No trash in the yards, no paper lying on the ground, no cluttered sidewalks. The city furnishes a receptacle just for recycling and another for trash. It isn't hard to recycle when everyone does it.

Recycling = Jobs = good point ;)

Indeed it isn't. Here in our community, we are still starting with the reduce, recycle, reuse program. The program is still in its budding phase, so everyone is still not accustomed to doing it. But, I am hopeful that one day doing it comes out naturally. Thanks for sharing your thought on this.

Yeah. The government could provide jobs through this way.
