Getting Started With Hubpages: I am a Novice Myself Part 1
73
Several hubs about tips on getting started with hubpages are already published. Why did I make my own? Because one of us have experiences different from the others. I want to share my own, hoping that others may get ideas from it.
I signed up for Hubpages a few months back but didn't really start using it until recently. For one, I didn't have the time to find subjects that are worth my interest and my pounding on my keyboard. Secondly, I didn't know how to go around the site. There are how-to guides, getting started program, and tips from other hubbers; however, I didn't read them all.
Nevertheless, I published one article a few months ago. I was only testing the waters, since I was writing about coconut water. No pun there. A few more weeks passed before I published another set of articles. After that, I published as more write ups as I can, on any subject and niche. However, I still didn't know how to make use of the features in Hubpages: make friends, follow hubbers, vote hubs, and make earnings. What I know is that this is a community of writers and writers-to-be, like me, who helps members enjoy their stay here and become successful. Because of that hard beginnings, I decided to write my own tips for new and budding writers here so that they will not have a hard time as a fledgling.
Tip #1: Publish several, high-quality articles
We all heard it, time and again, that content is king. Indeed it is. If you want to make your mark here, at least write something that interests your readers and not just yourself. Instead of having a wide audience, you may lose them if you have lackluster articles.
If you plan to earn from your work, then select a niche that most people searched. It could be about the health, economy, technology, environment, etc. Use long-tail keywords, properly placed several times in your article because search engines love that. You will see that when you try to type in your keyword in google, your article will appear in the first page. Although that may take some time, and more effort on your part.
Remember that you are writing for people and not the search engines. Even if your article ranks first, but, it is not written really well, then readers will not read it definitely. Watch the syntax and your use of the English grammar. I admit, I typically have errors on this, but I make extra effort to check them. A few hubbers have tips on how to check your use of the language.

Do not try to explain matters on long sentences, especially if English is not your forte. Do not bore them by writing long articles. If there is so much information in your write up, cut it and continue on your second article. Keep it simple and understandable.
Most importantly, try to link to link other hubs or articles, even if its not your own. You will gain more audience, and others will be courteous enough to do the same as you and link their pages to yours. Backlinks also increase your ranking in search engines.

Your article reminds me of myself. It takes time to learn how hub pages works. I am on month 12 now and gaining readers from search engines for some of my articles. I have learned that niche specific articles do better than anything else. They are also easier to get placed page 1.
Business articles placed elsewhere are doing better. They are bringing in over two hundred visitors a day.
Lately we have been concentrating on search engine optimization, back linking, and submitting to search engines. Each take time and the results if any are not showing yet. We have found that the simple things we did when we started have been effective. We are wanting more exposure so have continued learning.
Without the positive feedback from other hubbers chances are we wouldn't be writing today. When you don't know if what your doing has value it is often hard to continue. That is the best gift we can give new hubbers is the knowledge what they are doing has value and gently showing them how to improve as they did me. It was hard on me as English is my third language and sentences in English look backwards in my mind.
Great informative hub looking forward to seeing more of your work.
You have found a wonderful writing site to begin your career with. Everyone here at HubPages started out as a novice like yourself and we have all matured into unique writers.
You will find your niche and make some wonderful writing connections here too. Good luck with your articles
Thanks for Sharing
This is an excellent hub you have written. I have so much to learn. Especially I admire those writers here on Hubpages who can write so objectively and at arms length. There are only a few subjects I am interested in enough to try to do that, but some hubbers are so good at doing it on almost any subject. Great hub.
Lovely comments in your article, thearbiter0808! At first, I read your name as "the ear biter," then looked again and saw "the arbiter!" LOL! I like that. Thanks for the advice above, it is helpful and interesting. Voting Interesting, Useful and UP! :)
Hi thearbiter... has it improved over time?

Great article. I like your approach to taking it slow and easy and not mastering everything at one time. It reminds of people who try to learn a software program by mastering ever feature. They then become overwhelmed and sometimes frustrated.
I am a woodcarver and the same thing applies. When you are first starting out, you don't buy every tool that is available, you only buy the ones you need for the particlular project you are working on. Eventually, you'll acquire all the tools you need.
